Performance based selection
One of my friends mentioned that in Germany, STEM university allows anyone with a high school diploma to enroll, only to kick those who fail in math exams out. This is a much better model than to rely on third party information (usually some score) to select students. It is better for both the students and the university. Personally, I don’t think a high school diploma is needed, since I heard that those who don’t finish high school tend to be illiterate.
This also applies to jobs too. Some companies will give intership to just about anyone. This culture is common in Japan, where salary is paid in cash. I can’t stress how important it is to not have the bureaucracy mess with labor.
